Clamp ear (clamping element)
The clamp is tightened with the help of instruments designed by Oetiker, bringing the Oval corners of the bottom of the "ear" closer together. The maximum diameter reduction is proportional to the open "ear" width (s).

Multi-position lock
The lock consists of one or two load bearing hooks that can withstand the tensioning force during the tightening process, and a lock tongue designed to hold these hooks in their windows prior to tightening. In both structures, the lock can be locked in different locations within the specified December. This feature allows a single piece to be used for a range of diameters.

109 and 159-adjustable clamps
109 adjustable clamps are supplied preformatted and set to average diameter. 159 series clamps are provided straight. The clamp must be formatted before mounting. Each gradual movement of the lock reduces the diameter before the tightening process by about 1.6 mm. The following assembly steps show how an effective geometry can be best achieved. In both models, the clamp ear must be tightened with fixed tool jaw force, this practice is called "Force priority tightening". This mounting method allows homogeneous and repeatable pressure to be applied to the application with a constant tensioning force on the mechanical lock.

Tightening force
The tightening force must be selected to provide the desired material compression or surface pressure, and must be defined through dimensional evaluation and experimentation. The resistance applied to the clamp is equal to the force applied, so the tightening force decreases significantly during compression of a soft material.
