Self-riveting locking nuts have locking torque on thin metal panels. The locking feature design provides a locking feature that minimises thread damage with reusability. The design of these nuts becomes an integral part of the chassis when inserted into a pre-drilled hole in the panel and the clamping force is applied. The basic premise for the application is that the fasteners must be stiffer than the panel to which they are to be attached. The locking feature can prevent the mating screw from backing out and possibly short-circuiting the electronic unit.
